A zero emission Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) vehicle is being used for road works protection in Sweden

The use of fully electric heavy goods vehicles for municipal use has been increased in Sweden

The country is now using eEconic “Truck Mounted Attenuators” (TMA) for road worker protection in Stockholm. The Mercedes eEconic is no stranger to Swedish roads, having already been deployed as an electric alternative to conventional powertrains to help in the country’s goal to achieve local CO2 neutrality in urban environments. So far, this has been limited primarily to waste management tasks in cities, including Stockholm.

Now, the zero-emission trucks will be used for TMA operations too. These vehicles are equipped with mobile impact absorbers – also known as TMA or truck-mounted attenuators – to secure construction sites of short duration, for example. The truck-mounted attenuator can protect all the workers and vehicles involved in roadworks or traffic management in the event of a collision.

At the moment, there are two suitably equipped eEconic vehicles available and each one is equipped with its own separate battery system with approximately 20 hours of operating capacity per charge, as well as additional solar cells that can be used for powering ancillary equipment without draining battery power.
