Testona update enables text format test case implementation using generic software interface function for test engineers.

Version 4.3 of TESTONA, software for systematic test design based on the classification tree method, is now available from Berner & Mattner. The main feature of the update is a generic interface to test systems. This code export function can be used to create test implementations directly from the software, expanding the options for test automation to the large number of test systems that can be controlled using text formats (XML, ASCII, etc.). The new generic interface function is a component of the Professional and TESTONA Enterprise editions of TESTONA.

A consistently tool-supported process from systematic test specification and automatic test case generation to the automatic use of test cases by the test system is now available on a tool-independent basis. The consistent test process with automatic test implementation has already been possible for users of the Berner & Mattner ANCONA, MESSINA, and MODENA test systems or users of widely distributed tools like Rational DOORS or Quality Centre. With the new version of TESTONA, the consistent test process with automatic test implementation is now available to a broad range of test execution platforms and systems. To extend interface functionality, the developers of TESTONA made use of a feature shared by most test systems: the ability to interpret instructions in text format. Whether JUnit, XML, text, or other formats – the test cases generated by TESTONA 4.3 are provided as executable code, interpretable test scripts, or human-readable text.

To do this, the users only need to provide the appropriate code segments as a template when creating the classification tree. For Testers who are used to controlling their test system with the corresponding text instructions, this is a one-time step that more than pays off during the later automatic processing of all test cases. The relevant code segments are composed into complete test execution descriptions for each case and transmitted to the test system.

Additionally, the TESTONA developers worked on general program performance. The file handling has been improved; large files load much faster than in previous editions. Test case generation for full combination also is significantly faster now.
