AcSoft will provide UK customers with LEA software from Genesis for the sound design and analysis for the transport and defence industries.
Air, road and rail transportation system sound specialist, AcSoft has entered an exclusive UK distributorship for LEA software from France-based Genesis. The deal was struck at the Instrumentation, Analysis and Testing Show at Silverstone.
LEA software offers sound design, analysis, quality and synthesis across a wide range of industries, including automotive, aerospace, defence, rail and audio and telecommunications. It is able to link sound to driving and flight simulators and virtual reality platforms and enables sound definition, brand sound creation, subjective and objective testing, component separation, troubleshooting and sound dataset preparation.
According to John Shelton, Managing Director at AcSoft, LEA software provides significant flexibility and performance benefits for aerospace, automotive and defence in particular. AcSoft is confident that it will help existing and potential customers in these and other industrial sectors achieve the high levels of sound quality required to ensure comfort, safety and efficiency plus reduce the impact of noise on communities.

The acoustic signal from a car’s electric starter allows for an in-depth analysis of the engine starting sequence. With just a few clicks, LEA separates the components of the sound, plays them and extracts the harmonics.
In addition, LEA is able to calculate crucial metrics concerning noise perception inside and outside an aircraft. For example, to analyse the comfort level inside the cabin of a helicopter, LEA calculates standard indicators like loudness (zwicker – ISO532B), sharpness, roughness, fluctuation strength and others. LEA offers the possibility to calculate a user-defined comfort index to obtain an overall measurement of the comfort inside the cabin using only a single indicator.
LEA’s flexibility means it can be adapted to fit customers’ specific needs and applications. The standard package offers features for sound design and sound analysis but a series of optional modules provide access to dedicated functions, including order analysis, psychoacoustics, sound synthesis, 3D sound and sound simulation. Capable of performing advanced analytics and processes, LEA’s intuitive interface is easy to use and does not require a background in signal processing. LEA’s Time-frequency diagramme is manipulated through the use of graphic Autosize FFT, Autoscale, zoom and slice display tools.
The Magic Wand is an efficient way to visually select a sound component. Other easy-to-use selection tools, like the line, rectangle and freehand options, allow the extraction or modification of any area in the time-frequency diagramme. Any extracted component can be listened to, amplified, attenuated, combined with others and saved.
The harmonic detector easily extracts the fundamental and any number of harmonics. It is also used to extract the RPM signal from a simple microphone signal, for order analysis or engine sound refinement. Sync playback makes it simple to compare the original sound to the modified sound and instantaneously switch between the two during playback.
The latest module for LEA is designed for transient extraction and de-noising, which is a powerful signal processing technique for working with signals contaminated with noise and transient events. This is the culmination of ten years’ research, and now available in a PC-based package.
