The Volkswagen Touran has won the Euro NCAP best in the compact MPV class award for high crash test rating.
Rated as one of the most crash resistant vehicles produced during 2015, the new VW Touran has been given the best in class award for Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPV) by the crash test rating organisation, European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).
Having undergone the crash test assessment during September last year, the Touran received the top 5-star classification based on the results of tests for child and adult occupant protection, pedestrian protection and advanced safety features for driver assistance.
Achieving such a high performance level in Euro NCAP assessments is more difficult every year as the organisation changes the specifications to take into account changes in the availability of new technology in order to encourage the automotive industry to stay abreast with the latest trends in safety systems.
For 2015, Euro NCAP introduced a head-on crash test involving the entire frontal section of the vehicle as well as a requirement for the inclusion of Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). The Touran also includes such features as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with countersteer assistance and automatic post-collision braking.
The VW Touran also features PreCrash proactive occupant protection systems which minimise the severity of the collision by taking preventive measures including the pre-tensioning of seat belts and automatic closure of windows and sunroof, thus enabling the optimal operation of the head and side air bags.
