WABCO is attending the Automotive Engineering Exposition in Yokohama with its range of advanced safety systems for commercial vehicles.

Taking place between 25th and 27th May, the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2016 will be held this year in the Japanese city of Yokohama and will be attended by commercial vehicle safety technology specialist, WABCO.

The company is at the forefront of innovative development in safety technology and the event provides an opportunity to showcase such features as automatic emergency braking, electronic stability control, lane departure warning and tyre pressure monitoring systems amongst other products available from the company to commercial vehicle manufacturers.

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) – The company’s OnGuardACTIVE product provides autonomous braking based on radar detection of traffic conditions in the road ahead. The 77GHz radar sensor provides the eyes of the system, which can recognise impending problems on the road ahead and warn the driver. If the driver doesn’t respond, OnGuardACTIVE takes autonomous control and applies the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a complete halt if necessary. AEB can help to prevent dangerous rear-end collisions or mitigate the damage caused by such events.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – Advanced OnLane from WABCO is an advanced driver assistance system that uses cameras to continuously monitor the vehicle’s position within lane markings and alerts the driver of unintentional lane changes via acoustic, visual and haptic warnings. The system has been shown to be useful in maintaining a level of alertness in the driver.

Rear blind spot monitoring – TailGUARD combines blind-spot monitoring with automatic braking to assist drivers of lorries and buses with reversing manoeuvres by analysing the blind spot behind the vehicle using six ultrasonic sensors for object detection.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) – Intelligent ESCsmart from WABCO has been specifically engineered for commercial vehicles, including vans, trucks, coaches and buses. It intervenes in vehicle operation to maintain stability and reduce the risk of skidding, jackknifing and rolling over.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) – The new OptiTire product tracks tire temperature and enhances early leakage detection, which helps to improve vehicle maintenance and up-time. As well as performing a critical safety function of monitoring tyre pressures, the TPMS increases fuel economy by up to 2% and extends tyre lifetime as the system continuously supports keeping tyre pressures at recommended levels. The system can be retro-fitted or can be used in new builds where the vehicle manufacturer can choose between external or internal wheel sensors.

Commenting on the company’s presence at the Yokohama event, WABCO’s VP of the Asia Pacific region, Sujie Yu said, “WABCO’s technology can further help commercial vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators improve the safety and efficiency of trucks, buses and trailers across the Asia Pacific region and markets worldwide.”
